用英语简单地解释,commonplace就是ordinary, not unusual, unremarkable, commonly seen or found.

例如:

Air travel has become commonplace today.

Something commonplace is ordinary. It can also be something dull and unchallenging or tired and clichéd.

例句:

Starbucks in big cities are commonplace, so are berets in Paris. You see them all over the place.

Commonplace things and behavior are ordinary. For example, a commonplace job is a boring, mind-numbing task. It’s humdrum and unglamorous. A commonplace word or saying is a cliché — it’s so common that it becomes meaningless and annoying.

表示这层意思时,大概就相当于unexciting, not challenging; dull and lacking excitement.
