第737期：还记得年少时的梦吗？像朵永远不调零的花

昨天无意间听到李宗盛的那首老歌：

还记得年少时的梦吗
像朵永远不调零的花
陪我经过那风吹雨打
看世事无常
看沧桑变化

……

心里想到的不是张艾嘉，而是一个有趣的英语单词：salad days

每个人都有过salad days，指的是年少时的青葱岁月，少不更事，心比天高，不成熟，但是对世界充满了热情，单纯、理想主义。

这就是人的salad days，用英语解释就是：the days of carefree innocence and pleasure of our youth；a youthful time, accompanied by the inexperience, enthusiasm, idealism,
innocence, or indiscretion that one associates with a young person.

为什么英语会把这段青春年少的岁月称为 salad days（色拉日子）呢？

又是莎士比亚发明的一个说法——出自莎翁的悲剧剧作“Antony and Cleopatra”（安东尼与克丽奥佩托拉）第一场第5幕， Cleopatra（克丽奥佩托拉）发的一句感慨。

她在回忆年轻时跟凯撒大帝（Julius Caesar）那段激情燃烧的岁月时说：

..My salad days,

When I was green in judgment: cold in blood, To say as I said then!

她说那时候年轻，不懂事，没心没肺。颇有懊悔的意思。

注意她原话中的“缺乏判断力(green in judgment)”，我猜这或许正是莎士比亚当时写出salad days时的原意：色拉里面的各种生菜都很新鲜，以此来指代人的年少时期。

Salads are green, and “green” is often used in the English language to denote someone who is inexperienced.

你体会到了吗？这是莎士比亚写作时拿green这个词玩的一个小词趣和文字游戏。

A good salad is fresh, crisp, and usually green. Those attributes are
often associated (in both vegetables and people) with vitality and
immaturity.

这是salad days最初的意思，后来现代英语中 salad days有了更多引申含义，更多用来指人的鼎盛时期，最得意最成功，顺风顺水的时期：an early flourishing period.

表达这个意思时类似另一个单词: heyday （全盛时期）。
