第937期：Who needs a hole in the head?

前几天看了山下英子《断舍离》一套五册，挺好的。

书中的很多理念和习惯值得学习。断舍离不是简单地扔东西，而是一种生活主张和风格，我觉得挺励志的。

很多人购物是盲目的，有的贪便宜，有的是冲动购买，买回来后其实一次都不用。

这一点令我想到英语中有个好玩的成语，说的就是这种心态。

来看个例句先：

She already has too many shoes. She needs another pair like a hole in the head.

这句话怎么理解？

她已经有很多鞋了。为什么说她“需要另一双鞋就像头上的一个洞一样”？

这就是我们今天要讲的英语成语：like a hole in the head. 

If you say that you need something or someone like a hole in the head, you are emphasizing that you do not want them and that they would only add to the problems that you already have. (Collins Dictionary）

这句英语解释挺清楚的。如果你说你需要一个东西就像脑袋上需要一个洞一样，意思是你根本不需要那个东西。

最常见的形式是：need something like a hole in the head，意思就是you definitely do not need something; you don’t need it at all. 

除了这个正规的说法，我还见过一个搞怪的说法，意思类似：I need this like I need a third armpit. 

谁会需要第三个腋窝呢？跟脑袋上的洞一样完全不需要。

网络时代还有很多搞怪的变体说法，列举几个，大家如果看到了解即可，不需要自己也这样说话：

I need this like I need a tooth pulled

I need this like I need another pair of legs

I need this like I
need a heart attack.
