第973期:大理白族古镇有感 – cleanliness is next to Godliness
Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
1601年,培根在 In Advancement of Learning中写道:
Cleanness of body was ever esteemed to proceed from a due reverence to God, to society, and to ourselves.
Let it be observed, that slovenliness is no part of religion; that
neither this, nor any text of Scripture, condemns neatness of apparel.
Certainly this is a duty, not a sin. “Cleanliness is, indeed, next to
godliness.”
Our bodies – to every hair and bit of skin – are received by us from our
parents, and we must not presume to injure or wound them. This is the
beginning of filial piety.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness
