第1200期：躺平与佛系，阶级固化与不想当韭菜

前段时间好像流行一个新词“躺平”是吧？不知道这个词现在烦不烦忌，今天小心地随便聊聊跟“躺平”有关的英文。

我没有研究过躺平这个词的出处，但第一次看到就秒懂，这起码可以说明这个词具备相当高的逼真和准确度。

躺平如果直译的话就是 lie flat，没什么意义。严格地说 lie flat 甚至不是正式的英语。

英语中表示睡觉姿势有下面几种说法：

• 平躺、仰卧 – supine，口语可以说 lie on your back
• 侧卧 – lie on your side (left side, right side）
• 俯卧 – prone，口语可以说 lie on your stomach

所以“躺平”说的并不是睡觉时的平躺或仰卧，而是一种人生态度，用北京话说就是——我TM就躺下了，怎么着吧，爱谁谁，姥姥！

在Linkedin上看到一个外国人对时下这种“躺平主义”的解读，很有意思。

Lying flat-ism (躺平主义）- The
attitude seen to represent a silent protest to unfairness, often the
result of structural and institutional factors that can no longer be
altered by personal efforts

It’s a reaction to ‘involution’ in Chinese society (内卷).

Nèi
juǎn is probably better understand as ‘unfair competition’ – or fierce
‘over-competition’ in one sector which causes in-fighting and internal
friction’.

Lying flat-ists have given up on life. They…

• 不消费 – don’t buy stuff
• 不工作 – don’t work
• 不交流 – don’t communicate [with the outside world]
• 不买房 – don’t buy a house
• 不买车 – don’t buy a car
• 不结婚 – don’t get married
• 不生娃 – don’t have kids

Instead, what they do is…

• 维持生存最低标准 – maintain the lowest possible standard of living
• 拒绝成为他人赚钱的机器 – refuse to become money-making machines for others
• 只关心自己 – only think of themselves

躺平主义从某些方面跟佛系生活态度有相似之处，但又不完全一样。究其原因，很复杂，阶级固化（class rigidity）和年轻一代的逐渐觉醒大概是一个重要的诱因吧。
