第1676期:French Guillotine 断头台

1792年的今天(4月25日),法国巴黎市民早早地吃完了饭,男女老少争先恐后兴高采烈万人空巷地聚集到了“巴黎菜市口”(Place de Grève)激动万分地等着看杀人。

巴黎人热爱看杀头,这不是头一次,但听说今天要用一种最新发明的砍头机器杀人。

这种砍头机叫做 guillotine (/ˈɡɪlətiːn/),被砍头的人犯名叫Nicolas Pelletier,犯盗窃罪并暴力拒捕。

午时三刻一到,刽子手行刑。只听一声响,一个巨大的铡刀从guillotine架子上方重重地落下,瞬间切掉了死刑犯的首级。人头滚入行刑架前面的一个篮子,刽子手拎起篮子向人群展示刚看下来的人头。

什么?这就完了?老子为了看今天的砍头昨天激动得一宿没睡,连早点都没吃,几秒钟就结束了?不行!骗人!退票!(当时如果现场卖票估计很多不满的人会喊退票。)

过去杀人现场多热闹啊,把犯人绑在行刑柱上百般折磨(torture),千刀万剐,多热闹多好看啊。只有那些有钱的犯人才能干脆利索地被处死,看起来就不太有趣。

上面这段话摘自一篇关于绞刑架的文章,说围观看杀头的人群非常不满意,觉得砍头的过程太短,辜负了他们看热闹的期望,人群甚至对着刽子手喝起了倒彩。

法国过去最残忍的一种处斩方式类似中国古代的五马分尸,英文称为 quartering. 就是把犯人的四肢绑在四辆马车上,那场面你在古代中国小说里一定读到过。

这个断头台以当时法国的一位医生和政客Dr. Joseph Guillotine的名字命名,但其实不是他发明的,只是他参与主导制作的。后来据说这位Guillotine博士的后人要求政府给断头台改名字,政府不许,结果这家人一气之下就把自己的姓给改了——谁愿意祖祖辈辈跟一台砍头的机器同名呢?

看杀人大概是人性之恶中的至恶之一吧,只要杀的不是自己和自家人,砍头杀人都可以作为一种消遣娱乐甚至社交活动,沾了人血的血馒头还能治痨病。

法国大革命时期,共有16,549人被guillotin断头台砍头。纳粹德国占领法国期间,不下16,500个法国反抗者的头被自己先人发明的砍头机砍下。

法国大革命(French Revolution)是人类历史上的致暗恐怖时刻之一,实行 rule by fear的暴力统治逻辑(Reign of Terror),一切恐怖行为都打着革命的旗子变成正义和主旋律。
