第2044期：Wipe the floor不是洗地；那么洗地的英文怎么说？

台风过后的第一个清晨，刚五点，天微明，路上人车稀少，步道上只有昨天被狂风摧折的枝叶和嘟嘟囔囔的环卫工人。昨天那样的风，不知鸟们是怎么躲过的，它们昨天何处藏身？

地面刚被洗过，空气清冽。想起英文里一个说法：wipe the floor

Wipe the floor的意思不是擦地板，也不是洗地，而是“轻松击败”，to defeat someone easily.

例如：

“I hear Italy beat France in the semifinals last night.”

“Beat them? They wiped the floor with them!”

大比分赢对手（defeat by a large margin），碾压对方，英文就可以用 wipe the floor (with)——注意后面用介词 with.

If you wipe the floor with someone, you defeat them completely in a competition or discussion.

有个变体 mop the floor with someone，把wipe 换成了mop，意思一样，都是“完胜”，不是擦地或拖地。

为什么会有这个说法？

据说最早是形容拳击手把对手轻松击倒在地，打得对方毫无还手之力，像个苕帚或拖把一样倒地不起。

网络口语中所说的“洗地”英文可以说 white wash.

如果你自己动手粉刷过墙你就秒懂，把不好的东西用涂料糊上，刷刷白，抹平，嘿，您瞅瞅咯，跟好人一样。

White wash见多了，现在看见太干净的地面和墙壁都躲着走，不再相信。
