有没有注意过每座桥的桥头都有一个亭子，据说是宋代园林建筑流传下来的做法，称为“桥亭”，目的是供路人休憩、造型美学、欣赏河景，好像也统称为风雨亭。我印象中一直记得这种亭子还有个很美的名字叫“报水亭”或“谢水亭”，但没有找到印证，也许是我记错了。

古人走过了一座桥，感念修桥人的善举，都要转过身对着桥躬身施礼，称为“过河拜桥”，不知是否可以用英文解释为 bow to a bridge in appreciation of the builder？我瞎说的，欢迎读者讨论。以后你跟歪果仁闲聊时可以跟他们讲讲“过河拜桥”这个美好的古风。

但过河的人多了，拜桥的人不见了。现代人擅长的是过河拆桥，这个成语甚至是很多人下意识中对“桥”的第一个联想。

过河拆桥英文怎么说？

我看到有些字典上用 burn one’s bridge来对应过河拆桥，well, not quite. 不太对。

Burn one’s bridge （burn a bridge; burn bridges）的意思是To cut oneself off from all chance of retreat; to stake everything on success 自断所有退路，孤注一掷，放手一搏。另一个英文成语 burn one’s boat也是这个意思，都可以对应汉语成语“破釜沉舟”。

Cambridge Dictionary解释 burn your boats/bridges – If you are in a situation and you burn your boats/bridges, you destroy all possible ways of going back to that situation.

但这不是过河拆桥。

过河拆桥说的是自己过了河就回头把河上的桥拆掉，不让别人过河，比喻达到了自己的目的后就忘恩负义把帮自己成功的人踢开。

英文里有个说法 kick (someone) down the ladder 把梯子踢倒，意思更接近过河拆桥。

The Free Dictionary解释说：kick someone down the ladder –

reject or disown the friends or associates who have helped you to rise in the world, especially with the idea of preventing them from attaining a similar position. (https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/kick+down+the+ladder)

过河拆桥的人必定是忘恩负义的小人，还有个英文成语 bite the hand that feeds you 意思类似，act badly towards the person who is helping or has helped you.

世上很多条河，不是每条河上都有桥。假如有，每座桥都来之不易。走过每座桥，回头望一望，心里鞠个躬，向当年建桥的人道个谢，继续赶你的路，莫拆桥。
