今天我们来学一个地道的英语习惯用语，get a handle on something，意思是understand something well. 简单翻译为“充分了解、掌握”。

这是佛老今天在Harvard Business Review（HBR）上看到的一个句子。

Before you hire new people, get a handle on how current employees are spending their time. 在招新员工之前，先要了解现有员工是怎么支配他们的时间的。

这个用法其实很简单，但很少有中国人会用get a handle on来表示“充分了解和掌握”的意思。

来看这个用法的英语解释：

get/have a handle on somebody/something – (informal) become/be familiar with and so understand somebody/something.

例句：

I can’t really get a handle on the situation here. What’s happening? 我真的不了解情况。到底怎么回事？

The OED（牛津字典） defines to get a handle on, as ‘to gain control over . .
. to acquire the means of understanding or of forming an opinion about’. 从牛津字典的释义来看，get a handle on含有“掌控、掌握”的意思。
