第298期：mug shot不是大头照！

你知道大头照英语怎么说吗？就是社交媒体上人们用作头像的那种只有头部的照片。佛老在中国的网络上看到几处错误的答案，今天来纠正一下，以免更多人被误导。

先公布正确答案。大头照的正确英文说法是：head shot，也可以连起来写成一个词 headshot. 两种写法都对。

Wikipedia对headshot的解释是：A head shot or headshot is a modern (mostly digital files ) portrait where the focus is on the person. The term is usually applied for
professional profile images on social media, the ‘about us page’ or a
corporate website and promotional pictures of actors, models, and authors.

新牛津大辞典的解释是：

a photograph of a person’s head.
• a frame, or a sequence of frames, of videotape or motion-picture film that captures a close-up of a person’s head.

这两个解释都很清楚。大头照只有这一种说法，除此之外，网络上找到的其他说法都是错的。

这个名字(head shot)看上去和听上去都有点吓人有没有？看着好像被“爆头”似的。因为shot这个词除了“射击”之外，还有“拍照”的意思。你如果要夸奖别人的照片拍得好，就可以说Nice shot.

今天我们要学的一个新词是：mug shot，佛老就是看到某些不负责任的网站上有人把这个词对等为大头照。

Mug shot只有一种用途，就是指犯罪嫌疑人被警方拘捕后拍的那种穿着囚服的照片。前一阵子JD的小强在美国的那两张照片就是mug shot.

英语释义是：a photograph of a person’s face made for an official purpose, especially police records.

这几乎是mug shot这个词唯一的意思。
