第315期：gotcha

今天我们来学一个英语口语词：gotcha. 佛老要讲这个词的三个意思，并非只是常见的那个got you的意思。

首先，gotcha最基本的意思是got you或者i got you的缩略形式，可以理解为I got what you mean或I got what you are saying. 一般翻译成“我明白你的意思”或“了解”、“明白”，非常口语化。

来看个例句：

比方说你在美国旅游时问路。

你：Excuse me, is there a post office nearby?

路人：Yeah. You turn left, then right, go
straight on and it is on your left.

这时你就可以说：Gotcha. Thank you.

意思就是，好的，明白了。

当然，gotcha在这个语境下非常口语化，如果对方是位老先生，佛老建议还是不要说gotcha为好。美国有不少老派人特别不喜欢年轻人那种英语。

Gotcha的第二个意思是I caught you. 我逮住你了。或者I tricked you. 你上当了。这两层意思其实实质有点类似所以佛老把这两个意思作为一层意思来讲。

英语释义：gotcha is often used when you witness someone doing something naughty.

上面的两层意思比较常见和简单，佛老今天的重点是下面这层意思：陷阱。

Gotcha表示的“陷阱”不是传统意义上的陷阱，而是特指a pitfall, trap or potential issue in an environment or situation (or a programming language)，或者An annoying or unfavorable feature of a product or item that has not been fully disclosed or is not obvious. 怎么理解呢？

就是指电脑程序里预先设置的某种小后门小陷阱，或者某种产品没有公开说明的某项小功能，你如果事先不知道存在这些gotcha，就容易犯错和出错。

来看个例句：

The new camera takes excellent photos, but one major gotcha is its slow processing time.

这款新相机拍照很赞，但有一个小瑕疵（小陷阱）——处理速度很慢。

怎么样，明白这里gotcha的意思了吗？好像在说这款相机说明书没有写明这个速度慢的缺陷，因此对使用者形成了一种小欺骗和陷阱。

这里的gotchas就是A potential problem or source of trouble.
