第581期：记仇的英文怎么说？
你记过仇吗？
When someone has wronged you in some way, anger is a natural reaction.
生气和怨恨都是正常的人类情绪，但有些人事情过去了就忘了，或者就算了，有些人则喜欢记仇，纠结在过去的怨恨中走不出来。
记仇最常见有三种说法，都是英语成语。
今天我们先讲第一个：bear a grudge. 记谁的仇，就是 bear a grudge against谁。
三种常见变体形式：
- bear a grudge
- hold a grudge
- have a grudge
后面统一都用against someone.
If you tend to hold a grudge, you don’t let it go when you feel someone’s insulted or wronged you.
If you have or bear a grudge against someone, you have unfriendly feelings towards them because of something they did in the past.

从词源(etymology)上讲，grudge这个词来自中世纪英语 grutch，而grutch这个古英语词最早又是从法语来的。

*单词量大的读者可能会认识 grouchy这个词，意思是“脾气不好，喜欢发牢骚的“。
我们看两个例句，学会怎么用bear a grudge。
例句（1）
Johnny has been holding a grudge against me since we were 12 because I embarrassed him in front of a girl he liked.
从我们12岁时起Johnny就一直对我记仇，那年我当着他喜欢的一个女孩的面让他难堪了。
例句（2）
I apologized many times for calling my sister “fat” when she was a teenager but she still bears a grudge against me 25 years later.
小时候我说妹妹是个胖子，后来我跟她道了很多次歉，但25年后她还记着这个仇。
记仇是一种自己不愿放下的旧情绪，除了让自己不开心之外，什么用都没有。但这大概也是一个human nature，也跟性格有关。很多仇恨、怨恨大概也不那么容易放下吧。
所以英语中还有一种说法 harbor ill feelings (against someone)表示记仇，意思跟bear a grudge一样。
这是记仇的第二种说法。
这个说法里的harbor很好，除了“停泊”之外，还有一个意思就是“怀恨”。
很形象有没有？形容人的内心像一个港口一样，可以容纳很多船舶停靠，也可以深藏很多不好的情绪。
