第1041期：英语世界的 cyber slang，不知道就落伍了

网络时代，每种语言中都有网络新词。

以英语为例，近几年出现了很多新造的词，都很好玩。有些令人秒懂并拍案叫绝，有些乍一看不明白，但看懂了就会惊叹。

这些网络新词一般被称为 cyber slang, digispeak, netspeak, internet slang, 或 internet shorthand. 不知道该怎么翻译，暂且统称为”网络新词“吧。

如果你很少上英语互联网，可能会对此不太敏感。本文仅列举几个流行的 cyber slang 供你把玩。

YOLO – You only live once 的缩写，意思是“每个人只能活一次，生命短暂，应珍惜生命，活出最精彩，或及时行乐，live life to its fullest extent.
这个词被评选为2012年度英语新词。
Cewebrity: a person who is famous due to their world-wide-web presence. 靠网络出名的人，由 celebrity 和 web 两个词糅合而成，大致相当于“网红”。
Banhammer: a metaphorical hammer that is wielded by operators or moderators when banning one or more users from an online community. 类似把某人踢出直播间的那个“踢”，由 ban（禁止）和 hammer（锤子）两个词糅合而成。
Fat-finger: used mostly as a verb, to mean typing
clumsily by striking two keys at once (usually on a handheld device) or
typing extra letters.
“粗手指”，指在手机键盘上打字时打错，形容手指太粗，一下子按了两个键。一般是动词。
Typo-squat: to occupy a domain name that is a
misspelling of a popular website. For instance, a business could
purchase “gooogle.com” or “youtuvbe.com” and try to capitalize on the
typing mistakes (the “fat-finger”) of those trying to get to the two
most popular websites on the planet.
形容很多人因为“粗手指”而打错网址。另外，这是一种网络欺诈行为，以后另文专述。
“Your mileage may vary”: a disclaimer given along
with advice, meaning roughly, “It worked for me, but may not work in all
cases.” 或your experience may be different. 也可以缩写为ymmv，源于美国对汽车的性能检测，不同车耗油量不同。
例如：“I found it improved performance by 20% but your mileage may
vary.”
