第1165期：聊聊外企的 town hall meeting

佛老从大学毕业就一直在外企工作，不了解体制内的生态环境，一直觉得外企特别喜欢开会，尤其电话会，一言不合就约个 conference call，烦不胜烦。

平日里是各种电话会，明明两个人可以直接见面或者打电话把事情说清楚，有人却偏喜欢set up a tel co，搞得事事儿的，显得自己很职业经理人似的。

除了各种个人之间的小会、部门定期会议，外企还有一种很常见的会议形式叫 town hall meeting.

不要被它的名字吓到，其实就是员工大会。跟八十年代老国企厂长在职工食堂或礼堂开的那种会没什么本质区别。

今天我们就来聊聊 town hall meeting这种会议形式为什么叫 town hall.

Town hall 是什么？

字面看是“镇厅”，意思也就是这样，原本指北美地区一个城镇的政府所在地。City hall就是市政厅，town hall 跟 city hall区别不大，有时候可以作为同义词互换。

Town hall 也叫 municipal building, is the chief administrative building of a city town, or other municipality. It usually houses the city or town council, its associated departments, and their employees. （Wikipedia)

北美，尤其美国，的政客每到竞选季就四处巡回演讲自己的施政纲领，目的是拉选票。这种形式的聚会就是 town hall meeting最早的模样和用途。

就是 a way for local and national politicians to meet with their constituents（选民）。

后来这种形式从政治领域进入了商业领域，成了很多外企喜欢的大会形式。

外企的 town hall meeting一般有三个目的：

• Management to keep their team up to date on important information 管理层宣布重要信息（例如公司业绩等）
• The team to ask questions of management and give their feedback 员工向管理层提问（我公司经常发生员工当场向CEO扔鞋的场景，赞！）
• Everyone to understand the goals and values of the organization 使全员理解公司的目标和价值观，强化企业文化
