第1149期：作一个上进的人什么感觉？

相信你身边也有很多上进的人，他们很有追求，很有理想，重要的是他们都很努力。这样的人在英文中可以称为 an enterprising person.

今天这篇小文中有大量我本周阅读时的书摘（黑色字），也有一些我阅读时随手写下的随感（蓝色字）。与你共勉。

An enterprising person is one who comes across a pile of scrap metal and sees the making of a wonderful sculpture.

An enterprising person is one who drives through an old, decrepit part of town and sees a new housing development.

An enterprising person is one who sees opportunity in all areas of life.

Fuolao: Beauty is in the eyes of enterprising people. Where we see crises, they see opportunities. Where we fall into a pit, they gain in their wit. To be enterprising is never giving up on yourself no matter what.

An enterprising mortgage banker will develop creative financing strategies during slow markets.

An enterprising lawyer will study new laws and market herself to people who may need help in those areas.

An enterprising salesman will do extra research to find new prospects for his products or services.

Fuolao: What about an enterprising 9-to-5er? Do your job better than others do theirs. Get even better through self development.

Think of a few people you know who are enterprising.

Think of people in the news, in your office, in your neighborhood.

What do these people have in common?

Well, they’re probably always on the go, developing a plan, following a plan, reworking the plan until it fits.

They’re probably very resourceful, never letting anything get in their way.

Fuolao: None of them are lazy, to say the least. They go for MBA, another Master’s degree, or PhD, or professional certifications, or work multiple jobs, not for more money, but for more opportunities. I admire them. I envy them. I even feel shameful sitting next to them. But I like them and I want to become one of them.

Enterprising people always see the future in the present.

Enterprising people will always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it.

Enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your ambition.

If we keep doing a little less every day, we are also becoming a little less every day.

You can alter your life by doing a little more each day.

Pretty soon, you’ll develop a new habit of doing rather than not doing.

And what will days and weeks and months of doing a little more ultimately do for you?

It will increase your confidence, your courage, your creativity, and your self-worth — your enterprising nature.

每当我心情低落时，我就翻开这本书读几分钟，然后就会感觉很好。这就是励志书的意义和作用吧。
