Only a few monarchs have served longer

few better

fewer respected

even fewer well-beloved

Not every King is remembered

let alone esteemed

not every Queen is beautiful

let alone graceful

A Queen is a candle

flickers through darkness and hardships

firm and sturdy and hopeful

A Queen is a butterfly

flutters in and out of the world’s window

gentle and lively and peaceful

A Queen is a horse

trotting or galloping

tireless and buoyant

always on the go with a swing

A Queen is a book

starting with a fairytale

a legend in the ending

she has written it well
