第321期：dressed to the nines

以前有过一期我们讲了dress code，今天我们再来学一个跟穿衣服有关的英语表达，很高级的用法：dressed to the nines，也可以写作dressed up to the nines. BBC英语学习频道翻译为“衣冠楚楚”。也有些词典翻译为“穿得花枝招展”，这些翻译都过分意译了。佛老认为可以简单翻译为：着盛装。下面我们来详细学一下这个表达方法。

牛津大词典上说to the nines来自于18世纪的英语，意思就是to perfection. 所以，dressed (up) to the nines就是穿衣服非常讲究、郑重的意思。

来看一个例句：

Everyone gets dressed up to the nines when they go to a wedding. 每个参加婚礼的人都盛装打扮。

To be dressed (up) to the nines is to be wearing fashionable or formal clothes for a special occasion. 意思是说，当你dressed to the nines时，一般是为了出席某项正式活动而特意打扮的。
