今天我们要讲的这个词跟工作有关，尤其跟刚开始工作的人刚换工作的人有关：job shadow，中文一般直译为“影子实习”。

根据www.businessdictionary.com的定义，

a job shadowing is an educational program where college students or other adults can learn about a particular occupation or profession to see if it might be suitable for them.

简单说就是指在校学生去企业实地观察，分配一个企业员工带他们，让学生通过观察员工的日常工作过程来体会，从而确定某个职业或公司是否适合自己。天天跟着那个员工，像影子一样，所以叫影子实习(job shadow或job shadowing）。

例句：

In the junior year, the student must participate in a second Job Shadow Experience and perform 15 hours of community service. 大三时，学生必须完成第二次影子实习，并完成15小时的社区服务。（这是美国某大学对本科生的要求）

Job shadow这种做法不仅被国外的大学和高中普遍采用，很多公司对内部员工也有这种机制，帮助那些希望转岗的员工深入了解其他工作岗位。

例句：

Employees who are being prepared for promotion or change of role can benefit from job shadowing if it is well planned.

注意这跟我们通常说的实习(internship)是不同的。Job shadow一般是只看不干活，企业一般不付工资，也不算学校的学分。而实习是要跟着企业员工一起干活的，有实习工资，在有些学校计入学分的。

The difference between a job shadow and an internship is that job shadow is observation of work, whereas an internship is real work experience. With a job shadow, the student simply follows and observes a worker as she does the job. The student does not do any work, nor is he paid. （www.study.com）

美国波士顿私有产业委员会(Boston Private Industry Council)还专门有一个一年一度的Job Shadow Day，面向波士顿地区的高中生，给在校高中生提供去本地企业做影子实习的机会，方便高中生们规划自己的暑假打工，也利于当地企业向未来的劳动力展示自己。到2018年，这个Job Shadow Day已经办了23届了。这是美国教育体系的一个特色，很值得别国学习。
