第1110期：春节习俗英语说（初一特刊）

大年初一不停更，佛老就是这么努(ren)力(xing)。

但我估计你今天也顾不上看什么严肃的文章，忙着拜年、收发红包或者四处喝酒吃饭。

今天我们来聊一个简单的话题，春节期间的那些习俗用英语怎么表达。

说实话，现在的春节其实已经不剩下多少习俗了，越来越单一单调沉闷，就像如今各地的城市一样千篇一律没个性。

我想了想还是总结了一些勉强可以称为春节习俗的事 —— the 19 Spring Festival’s rituals：

Sweep the dust 扫尘 – 年终大扫除，cleaning up the old stuffs, the dust, the “chen” (old).
New Year shopping 买年货
Put up Spring Couplets 贴春联
Paste the “Fu” character 贴福字
Paste window paper-cuts 贴窗花，很少见了，北方农村还有。
Paste door gods pictures 贴门神，农村仍常见。门神基本上都是两个人——秦琼、尉迟恭。
Family reunion dinner 团圆饭，大年三十吃的年夜饭英文叫 the New Year’s eve dinner
Stay up late on the New Year’s eve 年三十熬夜（守岁）
Eat dumplings 吃饺子（北方）
Eat glutinous rice balls 吃汤圆（南方），汤圆也叫 sweet dumplings
Eat sticky rice cake 吃年糕（南方）
Set off firecrackers and fireworks 烟花爆竹，可惜现在大多数城市都禁止了
Pay New Year’s call (to relatives and friends) 去亲朋好友家拜年
Give red envelopes to children 给压岁钱
Wear new clothes 穿新衣
Roam temple fairs 逛庙会，很多老城市还都有。
Offer sacrifices to ancestors 敬祖先
Pray at the temple 寺庙烧香祈福（light incense and pray to deities for blessings and good luck in the year ahead）
Welcome the god of wealth 迎财神，中国的财神有文财神和武财神之分，文财神是比干、范蠡和李诡祖，武财神是关羽、柴荣和赵公明。最常见的是赵公明，《封神演义》中被姜子牙封为“玄坛真君”。
