第1380期：天天睡懒觉的人，睡懒觉英文怎么说？

第一次有人问我“睡懒觉”英语怎么说的时候，我一下子被问住了，还真没想过。

以前讲过习惯熬夜的人（night owl）和喜欢早起的人（morning bird），其实简单地说，豪不修辞地说，早起就是 rise early, 早起的人是 early riser，起床晚的人就是late riser.

如果某天，例如周末或假期，你提前已经决定了第二天不早起，不开闹钟，就是要睡到自然醒，睡个懒觉，这时候应该说 sleep in （to sleep until later in the morning than you usually do）.

例句：

More people like to sleep in on Saturdays but not on Sundays, why?

周六睡懒觉的人比周日多，为什么？

英国英语中还有个说法叫 have a lie-in，意思也是to remain in bed in the morning for longer than usual，我觉得更接近中文里的“赖床”，就是醒了也不起来，在床上赖着看书或就迷迷糊糊躺着。

例如：

Had a splendid lie-in till about 10am – finishing one of Jilly Cooper’s novels.

但在美国英语中，lie in有其他意思，更多表示抗议行为，an act of lying down (as in a public place) in organized protest，你可以想象一群人在大街上集体躺倒以示抗议某事。

英文中还有一个不太常见的词组 lie in state，这个词组只看字面你是永远猜不出的，意思是——遗体告别/瞻仰仪式，displayed in a coffin in a public place so that people can view it and show respect。

例句：

Lincoln was the first president to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. 林肯是第一位遗体安置在国会大厦圆形大厅供民众瞻仰的美国总统。

讲睡懒觉呢怎么说着说着就讲到遗体了？这也难怪，忘了谁说的了，每次睡觉其实都是对死亡的预演嘛。
