第1549期:A poem: 命(Fate)
The so-called fate is
actually two different things.
Having great mentors, you get ahead in the world in your salad days –
That’s luck.
With a robust constitution, you live up to old age;
It’s the gene.
Neither is your feat.
Ah the so-called fate
Except for biding your time
or biting the bullet
There is nothing you can do.
You never know what’s written on
The first page of your life book
It could be a prophecy
or heavenly mandate
You don’t know when tomorrow comes
If everything is still in your grasp
Either chip in
Or keep mum
Good luck, you lucky dog.
Bad luck, you are fucked.
No one knows beforehand
No one alters a single word
In the obscure script
Believe it or not
Live it up in your remaining days
Lucky or unfortunate
Give it some time and hang in there

The ancient emperors who’d “abdicated”
Were but foxes in separate caves
under the same skin
Cursed and doomed
Were not them but their dynasties
Ask all the despots in history
who’d have thought Sui’s Emperor Yang would be one day strangled to death by his protege?
Bear with me for the gibberish, but let me warn those young men:
Never bully your seniors, for you too will one day get on in years.
The flowers will fade, and the leaves wither only to witness new tombs in the graveyard, one year after another.
