第1807期：小孩儿没娘

继母、后妈在古汉语里叫“晚娘”，这个晚字什么来历，谁知道？

中国民间俗语说“宁要要饭的妈，不要当官的爹”，意思是亲娘即使要饭也会让孩子吃饱，但爹当了官基本都会抛妻舍子另结新欢。影视剧和小说里后母、后娘几乎没有好人，这似乎是人类古今中外统一的现象，是人性之恶呢还是好事不出门坏事传千里？

继父的英文是stepfather, 继母的英文是stepmother，这两口子合称继亲（stepparents）。

A step parent is a parent who is married to the father or mother of a child, but who is not that child’s biological (= related by birth) father or mother. (Cambridge Dictionary)

Step是什么意思？

这个词是从德语steop来的，本义是孤儿（orphan），孤儿的父母一方再婚后，另一个parent就成了father/mother of the orphan，后来在英语中就演化成了stepfather, stepmother, stepbrother, stepson, stepdaughter这组词。

只是，关于这组词还有个小问题——非亲生的那个儿子叫 stepson，中文叫“继子”。非亲生的那个女儿叫 stepdaughter，中文怎么办？叫“继女”？！

对，还真的就叫“继女”。

我一直觉得这个词因其读音歧义非常不雅，但不知古文里有没有其他称呼。哪位读者知道？敬请赐教。
