第950期：世上哪有不带刺的玫瑰？两个小成语，一学就会用
很多期没讲英语成语了，今天来讲两个很实用的小成语，都跟玫瑰花有关。一看就能记住，马上就会用，能给你的英语增色不少。

Never a rose without a prick 没有玫瑰不带刺
这句成语最容易理解，一看就明白，没有不带刺的玫瑰。prick就是植物上长的刺，这个词最准确。植物上的刺还可以说 thorn，但严格地说，thorn主要指荆棘。
这句成语的意思是：good things always have something bad as well; like the thorns on the stem of a rose.
很多国家的语言中都有类似意思的成语和谚语。
看个例句，学会用这句成语。
A: “I can’t believe the amount of taxes I have to pay on my lottery winnings!”
B: “Never a rose without the prick, eh?”
口气就是：又想马儿跑，又想马儿不吃草。或者什么好事都得付出点代价。
*注意：这个成语里prick前面的 a 也可以换成 the；另外，rose前面那个“a”不能省略。其实这个成语是一句话的省略形式，完整的话应该是 There is never a rose without a prick. 成语把 “there is”省掉了，这样一说你就容易记住了。
- No bed of roses 不是撒满玫瑰花瓣的床
这句成语的意思是：if a job or situation is not a bed of roses, it is not always pleasant and there are difficult things to deal with.
*注意：这个成语还有两个变体说法 – something is not a bed of roses 或 something is not all roses. 在三种说法中，rose都是复数形式roses.
