不管懂不懂英文，每个人大概都听过或说过“女士优先”这句话吧。英文中还有一句类似的话很少有人说：Age before beauty. 老人优先。

这句话很微妙，今天的小文你读得慢点，仔细琢磨一下。

先来讲一个小故事，发生在两个美国女人之间。

Clare Boothe Luce, 1903年生，美国驻意大利大使（1953-1956），作家，以下简称Clare。

Dorothy Parker，1893年生，美国诗人、作家、文艺批评家，以下简称 Dorothy.

Clare比Dorothy年轻十岁，记住这一点即可。

这句话经典、聪明到无法翻译——取自英文成语Cast pearls before swine字面意思是撒一把珍珠在猪面前，纯属浪费，一般对应汉语成语“对牛弹琴“。

你再把玩一下上面两人简短的语言交锋：

年轻的女人说Age before beauty. 言外之意是“你先走，老太婆。“

年长的女人说Pearls before swine. 言外之意是“好啊，猪头跟在珍珠后面。”
